TMSO and Singapore Symphony Orchestra (SSO) exchange players for the 2018 Musician Exchange Programme

TMSO will send its Principal Bassoon Player Mr. OKAMOTO Masayuki to the Singapore Symphony Orchestra (SSO) in Singapore for May 1-6 while SSO's Horn player, Mr. Marc-Antoine Robillard joins TMSO in Tokyo for September 18-23.
In 2009, TMSO and SSO initiated the Musician Exchange Programme to enhance the cultural exchange and mutual understanding between the two countries by sending their musicians to participate in rehearsals, concerts and various other events of the counterpart-orchestra.

Stay in Singapore for May 1-6

Masakyuki Okamoto graduated from Tokyo University of Arts in 1989 and joined the Tokyo Metropolitan Symphony Orchestra (TMSO) in the same year. He was awarded the 1st prize and Grand prix at the 6th Wind and Percussion Concours of Japan, Bassoon division. In 1991-1992, he studied in Hannover as DAAD Scholarship student for a training program, followed by further studies in Stuttgart as trainee of Affinis Arts Foundation in 1996-1997.
In 2003, he appeared in a recital “B→C” at Tokyo Opera City Recital Hall. He featured as soloist in “Portrait of Composers Series 《R. Strauss》 in 2008 performing Duet Concertino for Clarinet and Bassoon with Tokyo Metropolitan Symphony Orchestra under the baton of Kazushi Ono. He participated in the International Double Reed Society conference in Minneapolis (1993) and Birmingham (2009). Currently centering his activity as Principal Bassoon of TMSO, Mr. Okamoto also takes part in Kirishima Music Festival and Kiso Music Festival among others. He studied Bassoon under Itaru Morita, Hitomi Sugawara, Kouji Okazaki, Klaus Thunemann, Sergio Azzolini. He serves as Special Professor at Toho Gakuen School of Music and Docent at Tokyo University of Arts.
